The first traditional dress museum in Vietnam opened its doors to the public in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday.
The museum exhibits 36 pieces of clothing with 18 dating from the 17th to 19th century, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.
Another 18 dresses previously worn by prominent Vietnamese women, including first female general Nguyen Thi Dinh, former vice president Nguyen Thi Binh, actress Tra Giang and diplomat Ton Nu Thi Ninh, also form part of the museum’s collection.
Si Hoang, a well-known traditional costume (ao dai) designer in the country, decided to set up the museum five years ago after visiting a Kimono museum in Japan.
Hoang’s museum aims to popularise Vietnamese traditional clothing among local and foreign visitors.
