Major Travel Trend for 2014: Multigenerational Family Travel

Virtuoso, known throughout the industry as an authoritative trend-predictor, disclosed its 2014 Virtuoso Luxe Report. Based on a yearly survey of its selected travel advisors, and existing and expected reservations, the report forecasts luxury travel trends for 2014. The Virtuoso Luxe Report offers imminent to the patterns and decisions of the world’s wealthiest travelers.

In 2014, “Multigenerational Family Travel” is on the top trend, “Active and Adventure Travel” is the leading trend predicted for all travelers, particularly in more exotic destinations.

The major change in the findings from the 2013 to 2014 report is “emerging destinations.” Whereas Cuba remains the tourism destination most on the rise, the Galapagos Islands’ popularity is rising once again, while Iceland and Belize reached the “top 10.” Italy remains the most-liked destination for international travel in 2014, followed by South Africa, France and Australia.

This year a new category added which is the most popular honeymoon destination. Destinations topped the list are Italy, French Polynesia, Maui, the Maldives and St. Lucia. Maldives also joined the list of exotic locations.

The 2014 Luxe Report too discovered that the increase in longer trips to international destinations held steady from 2013, and advised that when necessary, travelers are willing to book lower room categories in order to stay in nicer hotels.
