Wings and Brushstrokes

Artist Michelle Pearson Cooper, who studied art in Florence, has had successful solo shows around the world including in Palm Beach, Marrakech and Dubai.

Michelle, who sees her art as ‘a visual tribute to endangered species’ has long had a fascination with bees, birds and big cats, and is also inspired by the traditional decorative design of the indigenous people of South Africa.

She lives close to these peoples’ natural home in Africa and has formed what she calls a ‘symbiotic relationship’ recreating individual portraits of them in her studio.

Michelle particularly likes the colours of Ndebele tribal design and the ceremonial costumes of the Xhosa, that embraces gala blankets, beaded headbands and ostrich feathers.

Wings and Brushstrokes, a new London exhibition of her work, at the Osborne Studio Gallery (18 October to 11 November 2023) will include charcoal drawings of cheetah, watercolours and sketches of the Maasai, oil paintings of pangolin, lion and leopard.
