Small scale, low competitiveness

Dong Xuan district has outstanding products derived from traditional crafts such as knitting in Thanh Duc village (Xuan Quang commune), brocade weaving in Xi Thoai village (Xuan Lanh commune), Long Binh rice paper (La Hai town). However, each commune has only a few households participating and doing it on a small scale, serving local consumption needs.

Or as Tuy An is known for its products of basket bottles, sedge mats, and traditional rice paper, but maintaining craft villages also faces many problems. Mr. Nguyen Cong Hai, Deputy Head of Economic - Infrastructure Department of Tuy An district, said: Up to this point, handicraft villages in the district include producing sedge mats in An Cu commune, knitting baskets and bottles in An Dan commune. , Hoa Da rice paper processing (An My commune) is still operating.

For Hoa Da rice paper processing craft village, in the past, there were larger-scale production households as the focal point to collect and support the consumption of their products, but now the market situation is somewhat difficult, so the This department does not buy as much as before. Therefore, the development of a production chain has not yet been formed. The other two craft villages are also facing difficulties in terms of raw materials, consumption markets...

Dong Hoa town has 2 craft villages producing sedge mats and ceramics, which are being lost due to lack of raw materials and output. Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, Vice Chairman of Dong Hoa Town People's Committee said: The households producing sedge mats get raw materials from the paved growing area in Hoa Hiep Trung ward. When households who grow slices switch to rice, production materials are cut off. Pottery villages are difficult to market, so artisans are not interested in producing.

Previously, the locality had a plan for households to learn experiences from craft villages outside the province and connect to solve outputs, but there were not many workers left, so the local support plan could not be implemented.

According to functional sectors, handicraft villages in the province mainly operate on a small scale, with low competitiveness; Products are mainly consumed domestically. From 2015 to 2022, there are 3 newly recognized craft villages in the province, bringing the total number of craft villages to 20, of which there are 17 handicraft villages and 3 purely agricultural craft villages.

Continue to invest

Over the past time, from non-business capital, national target programs, provincial budgets, etc., functional sectors and localities have implemented a number of supportive policies such as trade promotion, science and technology transfer. , building projects, development models in craft villages.
