Tickets are now on sale in Japan for the first-ever direct service from Tokyo-Haneda to Cairns.
The announcement was made at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo earlier this week, with Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe joined by Virgin Australia Velocity CEO Nick Rohrlach, Tourism Australia Country Manager Derek Baines and Tourism Tropical North Queensland CEO Mark Olsen for the media launch. The event was followed by trade education seminars hosted by TEQ and TTNQ.
The year-round, daily services take off from 28 June 2023 and are expected to bring more than 30,000 visitors from Japan in the first year of operation, generating $69.5 million in economic activity and supporting 680 jobs. TEQ has commenced marketing activities to support the service.
