The northern mountainous province of Lao Cai welcomed more than 1.4 million tourists in the first quarter of 2019, up 16.6 percent year-on-year, according to the provincial People’s Committee.
The locality’s tourism sector raked in nearly 2.5 trillion VND (more than 107.7 million USD) in the period, 65.8 percent more than in the same period last year.
In March alone, Lao Cai served nearly 600,000 holiday-makers, up 36.8 percent compared to the previous month. Sa Pa, Bac Ha and Lao Cai city were the most attractive destinations.
The number of visitors to Lao Cai is forecast to strongly increase in the coming months due to long holidays, festivals and cultural and tourism activities in the locality.
The local tourism sector is working to mobilise more resources, improve the quality of tourism services and enhance the tourism business environment, aiming to make it more attractive to holiday-makers and investors.
