PIER 39'S 39TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IN 2017

In the late 1970s, San Francisco developer Warren Simmons dreamed of an urban park along the city's undeveloped waterfront. On Oct. 4, 1978, Simmons's dream became a reality when PIER 39, a former dilapidated cargo pier, opened as an eclectic collection of specialty shops, restaurants and attractions. As the first project built along The Embarcadero since World War II, PIER 39 paved the way for future developments beside the Bay. Today, more than 11 million guests visit the PIER each year.

What better way to celebrate PIER 39's 39th Anniversary on the San Francisco waterfront than with a one-of-a-kind celebration? Each Friday for 39 weeks, starting Jan. 20, 2017, guests are invited to the PIER to celebrate nearly four decades of amazing views, fresh seafood, unique local shopping and, of course, sea lions.

Each week will offer something different, from discounts and giveaways to fun special events like Movie Nights, beer and wine pours, and more. On June 23, the PIER joins the Summer of Love anniversary fun with a Summer of Love Dance Party, with music from Mania! The Live Beatles Experience and DJ Bart. There’s something for everyone to enjoy throughout the year. The celebration culminates with the PIER’s 39th Birthday Bash on Oct. 14, featuring live music and fireworks over San Francisco Bay.
