Returning to TRENZ after a two-year hiatus, Gannet Safaris Overland is back with a new management team and new products to showcase the largest accessible mainland gannet colony in the world to visitors.
Gannet Safaris has been operating in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand for over 50 years, running overland tours to Cape Kidnappers gannet colony, where over 20,000 gannets from the Booby family nest during peak summer.
Travelling over an historic sheep station, visitors experience some of New Zealand’s most dramatic scenery including native bush, ravines and high top cliffs with views to the Pacific Ocean.
The three hour overland journey has become one of New Zealand’s most intriguing scenic drives since a private road, 10km predator proof fence, world class cliff-top golf course and luxury lodge were developed on Hawke’s Bay’s rugged and spectacular Cape Kidnappers. Rare native birds are also building populations on the surrounding land and it’s not unusual to sight brown teal – one of the rarest duck species in the world.
With exclusive access in air conditioned four-wheel-drive coaches, Gannet Safaris Overland operates daily tours from 1 September to 30 April. Departing at 930am and 130pm daily, tours are open to the public and cruise ship passengers.
New for this season is a series of private tours catering to groups between 2-21 passengers on a per hour charter basis (minimum 3 hours). These include a private Range Rover experience at $195ph, a mini-bus for up to 8 passengers ($200ph) and a coach for 21 passengers ($450ph).
