The fifth Southern Land Cuisine Festival will take place in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam from May 29 to June 1, serving more than 200 local dishes.
The event will be held by the municipal Department of Tourism, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Agency for Southern Affairs, and Ho Chi Minh City Travel Association.
A wide range of activities will be held during the event such as a cooking contest, a fruit sculpture competition, and a special art performance highlighting the traditional New Year celebration – Chol Chnam Thmay of ethnic Khmer people.
An art troupe from the southern province of Bac Lieu will entertain visitors with the unique dance of Khmer ethnic people, traditional costume performance, water-splashing festival, and folk games.
A rural market is also set up at the festival to introduce visitors to the southern land’s specialties.
The annual festival, to be held at Dam Sen Park, aims to promote the regional gastronomy to domestic and foreign visitors, said Pham Huy Binh, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Tourism.
