Five hundred of Fodor’s contributors reviewed more than 5,000 hotels for this year’s list, assessing service, setting, style and amenities. Readers also participated in the survey. Fifteen Fodor’s editors made the final determinations.
The Metropole was the only hotel in Viet Nam recognized on the list.
The 1901-built property was celebrated as an "Enduring classic" and kept company with the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok, the Savoy in London, and the Taj Mahal palace in India among others.
