Patong prepares to host Phuket Carnival 2014, marking high season arrival

The annual Phuket Carnival returns with the 29th edition scheduled to be held from 1 to 3 November, 2014 at Patong Beach. The event was first held in 1985 to mark the start of the high season for tourism in Phuket.

Ms. Anoma Vongyai, Director of the TAT Phuket Office said, “The event has been organised under a concerted effort of the public and private organisations in Phuket. In part, it is being held to covey the enthusiasm and unity among the local people in the various tourism sectors to be good hosts and welcome tourists to Phuket, one of Thailand’s most popular beach destinations and the gateway to the Andaman region.”The three-day Phuket Carnival 2014 will take place at Patong Beach from morning to midnight daily. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Blissful Beach’.

The colourful annual Phuket Carnival parade will take place on 1 November. Throughout the three days, there will be a range of activities including a mini-marathon, merit-making ceremony, food and arts and crafts fairs, photograph and painting contests, cooking competition, as well as plenty of stage performances and an international Jazz Night highlighting talented jazz musicians from the Philippines, South Korea, Cuba, Japan and Thailand.

Ms. Anoma said, “There are more reasons to visit Phuket this year, especially now that everyone is able to enjoy Phuket’s beaches, including the famous Patong Beach, in their pristine state, following the recent move by the officials to impose a ban on commercial activities on the beach and beachfront of Phuket.”
