With the Hall Road bushfire in NSW Australia now classified as 'Under Control' by the Rural Fire Service (RFS), Destination Southern Highlands (DSH) is reminding visitors that the region is again well and truly open for business.
"Tourism operators are in full operational mode and we're happy to report that all of the region's visitor attractions are again running in full swing," said Steve Rosa, Council's Acting Group Manager of Tourism, Economic Development and Events.
"This includes popular bushwalks, nature reserves and National Parks which were untouched by the recent bushfire.
"The Hume Highway and Southern Rail Line are also open and it's perfectly safe for travellers to make their way down to the Southern Highlands from Sydney and further afield.
"So we're encouraging visitors to reacquaint themselves with the Southern Highlands," Mr Rosa said.
To check on current conditions, visitors are encouraged to call the Southern Highlands Information Centre (SHIC) on phone 1300 657 559. For live fire updates visit the Rural Fire Service at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au and to view any changed traffic details, visit Transport for NSW's Live Traffic site at: www.livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au.
"Tourism is often a forgotten casualty of natural disasters like bushfires and on behalf of the Shire's local tourism industry, we'd like to thank all the staff from the NSW Rural Fire Service, Emergency Services personnel and the army of volunteers that protected and supported our region and its people," Mr Rosa said.
"The generosity of our residents is also to be applauded, as is their tenacity and resilience.
"We're still receiving daily enquiries from visitors on how they can help donate to those affected by the fires or assist the volunteers," Mr Rosa added.
"Wine, dine, walk or shop, our region really does have something for everybody."
