Newcastle’s cruise shipping industry and Newcastle Port Corporation have celebrated the 10th anniversary of Cruise Hunter, a local organisation established in 2003 to develop the cruise shipping industry in Newcastle.
Newcastle Port Corporation CEO, Gary Webb, said that 57 cruise ships
carrying about 110,000 passengers and crew members have been welcomed to
the Hunter Region since Cruise Hunter was established.
“One of our strengths as a cruise ship destination is our stakeholder
collaboration and the Cruise Hunter Advisory Group is an excellent
framework for delivering key initiatives. The support and team work of
the group is important for Newcastle in fulfilling its potential as a
cruise destination,” said Mr Webb.
The 10th anniversary was marked during a visit by Royal Caribbean’s
Rhapsody of the Seas, the sixth of 10 cruise ships to visit Newcastle
this season. More than 22,000 cruise passengers will visit the Hunter
Region during this season and the final cruise ship visit will be by
Pacific Pearl on the Sunday 26 May.
