The Countdown is on. There is only 9 days to go before
over 200 golfers descend on the NSW Hunter Valley to take a coveted spot in an
event they wait for all year, The Jack Newton Celebrity Classic.
Preparations are being made at the stunning Cypress Lakes
Resort. The greens and the poolside marquee are getting some extra special
attention. This is the one time of the year, when the stars of the scene,
stage, business and sporting fields combine to create the ultimate three days
of world class golf, music and entertainment, good times, fundraising and fancy
dress.
Anyone who has been to the event over the years agrees on
one thing, Jack sure knows how to throw a party. For that reason, there are
players who return any chance they get. 2012 is no exception with NRL greats
Wally Lewis and Terry Lamb, Ian 'Dicko' Dickson, comedian Jimeion, Wendell
Sailor and former Prime Minister and Patron of the event Bob Hawke all playing
again.
Some new blood is also joining the exclusive group.
Making their debut at this years' classic, star of the hit stage show 'Legally
Blonde', Rob 'Millsy' Mills. Former member of AC/DC and author Mark Evans,
House Husband star and ARIA Nominee Rhys Muldoon, Pat Davern, Kris Hopes and
Joe Hansen from Grinspoon, just ahead of their appearance at 2013's Big Day
Out, Deadly Award host & actor Luke Carroll who appears in the ground
breaking series Redfern Now, currently airing on the ABC and the winner of 2012
series of the Block, Brad Cranfield.
This spectacular mix of players, come together to raise
money for two causes close to the heart of their host, Jack Newton. The
tournament, which is now in its 34th year, has raised over 3 million dollars
for Diabetes education and prevention and Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation.
Jake Higginbottom who came through the program is testament to its success. The
Charlestown 19-year-old made the decision to turn pro on Tuesday after he won
the New Zealand Open on Sunday in Christchurch. We are thrilled to have him
playing as a professional for the first time in the Classic this year.
"One thing I always encourage my invited guests to
make is the Welcome BBQ on the Monday night, where I offer some vital riding instructions, house rules and most
importantly the expectations we have around having a good time and raising
money for our chosen beneficiaries."
said Newton.
The likes of Damien Oliver, Michael Hagan, Wilbur Wilde,
Justin Melvey and Ian Stenlake will swap their normal attire for their
compulsory favourite footy jerseys at the Welcome BBQ, as the games begin
