Enjoy A Feast Of Mouthwatering Food Spring Festivals In Korea

Spring in Korea
Spring in Korea brings with it a feast of festival events all over the country.  With the cherry blossoms come many festivals celebrating the return of Spring.  All over Korea from April – May there are many flower, food and cultural festivals. The cherry blossom festival is at its peak right now until late April and there are many areas around Korea to enjoy this beautiful sight.  Along with the blossoms come many cultural festivals which are of great interest to visitors to the country. 

Mouthwatering Food Festivals
Food is a reflection of a nation's culture. It is also a window into a nation's lifestyle and natural environment. Spring is the season to taste foods made of wild and fresh vegetables and green tea produced in the southern region. In the coastal regions, some types of seafood are only caught in this season. During springtime, an abundance of food festivals take place in Korea, celebrating unique and delicious local specialties.

Description: In the south-west of the country is Boseong with its beautiful green tea fields and superb landscapes. Boseong accounts for 40% of the nation’s total green tea production. Boseong accounts for 40% of the nation's total green tea production. Its beautiful green tea fields draw a large crowd of visitors every year. During the festival, attendees can pick green tea leaves or make green tea. There is also a tea ceremony organized for teenagers. Green tea products (food and beverages) are on exhibit and for sale.

Sancheong Medicinal Herb Festival

Venue: Gyeongsangnam-do Sancheong-gun Gyeonghogang River area
Description: Sancheong Medicinal Herb Festival focuses on health and celebrates the traditional medicines of Jirisan Mountain and the Sancheong region. Visitors can personally experience unique and specialized forms of treatment. Free treatments and consultation in traditional medicine are offered at the venues, and there is a marketplace selling medicinal herbs.

Hadong Wild Tea Cultural Festival.
Dates: May 2 - May 6, 2012
Venue: Gyeongsangnam-do Hadong-gun Hwagae-myeon and Agyang-myeon area
Description: Surrounded by Jirisan Mountain and the Namhae Sea, Hadong is regarded as one of the most beautiful areas in Korea. It’s never more beautiful than during the Hadong Wild Tea Cultural Festival. Take part in free green tea tasting, royal tea ceremony, and a green tea cooking contest to enjoy the flavors and culture of green tea.

Gwangalli Eobang Festival

Dates: April 27 - April 29, 2012
Venue: Busan-si Suyeong-gu Gwangalli Beach area
Description: The Gwangalli Eobang Festival, which is held in the Gwangalli Beach area, is one of the largest and most famous festivals in Busan. Visitors can take part in hands-on programs to fish with nets or even catch fish with their bare hands. Seafood is also available at affordable prices at the impromptu fish auction and marketplace. Don't miss the magnificent sight of Gwangan Bridge lit up at night, beach performances, a street parade, and water sports.

Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival
Dates: March 8 - March 12, 2012
Venue: Gyeongsangbuk-do Yeongdeok-gun Samsa Maritime Park and Ganggu Port
Description: Yeongdeok has long been known for large catches of snow crabs. In the Goryeo era (918 to 1392), the region presented snow crab to the king as a tribute. The festival is held in Samsa Maritime Park that famous for sunrise festival and Ganggu Port where there is a concentration of restaurants specializing in snow crabs. Various events are organized, including: Walking on the East Coast Blue Road, Yeongdeok Snow Crab Fishing, and a snow crab auction.

Red Snow Crab Festival
Dates: February 29 – March 4, 2012
Venue: Gyeongsangbuk-do Uljin-gun Hupo Port Hanmaeum Plaza
Description: The festival celebrates the snow crab and red snow crab, which are local specialities of Uljin county. It is organized in the Hanmaeum Plaza in Hupo Port. Various hands-on programs are held, such as the free sampling of snow crabs, making of bibimbap with the meat of snow crabs, a snow crab cooking contest, and auction events.
