Officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 21 under the Cruise Bharat Mission, this world-class terminal marks a defining moment for India’s growing cruise tourism industry. Designed to position Mumbai as a premier global cruise hub, MICT promises to revolutionise sea travel for both domestic and international passengers.

State-of-the-Art Design Meets Global Standards

Spanning an impressive 415,000 square feet, the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal sets a new benchmark for cruise infrastructure in Asia. The terminal is capable of handling one million passengers annually and can berth up to five cruise ships simultaneously. Its modern facilities, seamless check-in systems, and efficient passenger flow reflect international standards, offering a smooth and luxurious travel experience from port to ship. With panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and Mumbai’s skyline, MICT is set to become a destination in its own right.

Honouring Mumbai’s Rich Maritime Legacy

During the inauguration, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal celebrated the city’s deep maritime history, calling the MICT a natural evolution for a port long at the heart of India’s coastal trade. From ancient sea routes to modern-day voyages, Mumbai has always been India’s gateway to the world. The new terminal cements this legacy, positioning the city as a global maritime capital once again.

Part of the ‘Samudra se Samriddhi’ Vision

The launch of the MICT forms a key component of the broader ‘Samudra se Samriddhi’ initiative – a national vision to strengthen India’s blue economy and port infrastructure. Alongside the cruise terminal, Prime Minister Modi also laid foundation stones for several major maritime and energy projects, including container terminals at Kolkata and Paradip, multi-cargo facilities at Kandla and Ennore, renewable energy developments, and coastal protection initiatives from Chennai to Car Nicobar. These projects together signal a powerful push towards sustainable and inclusive growth through India’s maritime gateways.
