Hai Duong: Displaying the quintessence of Eastern antiques

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Duong province in coordination with the Eastern Antiquities Association organized the opening ceremony of the first thematic exhibition 'The Quintessence of Eastern Antiquities - Hai Duong' and announced the Prime Minister's decision to recognize the national treasure Hiep An brown-flowered ceramic jar of the Tran Dynasty.

The event was held on the morning of October 19. Comrades: Nguyen Khac Toan, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Minh Hung, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of many departments, agencies, branches and organizations of the province attended.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung presented the Prime Minister's decision recognizing the Hiep An brown-flowered ceramic jar from the Tran Dynasty as a national treasure to the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Thanh Trung said that immediately after its establishment, the Dong Hai Duong Antiquities Association coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize many meaningful programs and activities to connect, gather, and create close connections between state management agencies and antique collectors in the province to honor the value of cultural heritage of antiques in Hai Duong province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop a plan to ensure absolute safety for two national treasures recognized by the Prime Minister and kept at the Museum, namely the Huu Chung Bronze Drum and the Hiep An brown-flowered ceramic jar from the Tran Dynasty.

Immediately implement the Project to renovate and upgrade the treasury system, general artifact preservation warehouses and the preservation warehouses for two national treasures according to the approved Provincial Museum Repair Project, ensuring disbursement progress, meeting the needs of preserving documents, artifacts and antiques currently kept at the Provincial Museum.

The exhibition space will introduce to the public and antique lovers 2 out of 11 national treasures of Hai Duong province, currently preserved and displayed at the provincial museum.

Hiep An brown ceramic jar is 45 cm high and weighs 20 kg. The jar is made of white clay, covered with ivory yellow glaze, painted with brown glaze, and has a light gray ceramic body. The jar was discovered when people were digging a grave at Hiep An commune cemetery (now Hiep An ward, Kinh Mon town) on December 6, 1981.

In addition to two national treasures, the Huu Chung bronze drum and the Hiep An brown-flowered ceramic jar, the exhibition space also introduces to the public over 800 antiques from nearly 60 collectors inside and outside the province, including many collections of antiques of special value.

The displayed artifacts are diverse in materials, rich in types and decorative art styles. These are all typical artifacts carefully selected, dating from the Dong Son culture to the early 20th century, worthy of being the quintessence of Eastern antiques.

Many people and antique collectors came to visit the exhibition space. The exhibition space "The first Quintessence of Antiques of the Eastern Region - Hai Duong" at Hai Duong Museum is divided into 2 areas: the first floor displays Vietnamese ceramic antiques, the second floor is the area for signed porcelain, Chinese ceramics...

Lasting from now until November 3, the exhibition space will help people and visitors enjoy and learn more about precious antiques, while helping researchers and collectors have reference materials, compare and evaluate the value of antiques accurately.
