Carnival Cruise Line Transforms Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal Into Halloween Haunted Mansion

Today, Sydney’s iconic Overseas Passenger Terminal got a spooky makeover as Carnival Cruise Line transformed the venue into a haunted mansion, kicking off their frightfully fun Halloween celebrations with a first-of-its-kind "Trick or Treat" event.

Over 3,000 cruisers, dressed in their most elaborate Halloween costumes, had the option to "trick" or "treat" before boarding the Carnival Splendor. Those who selected “treat” indulged in sweet rewards, while daring guests who chose “trick” showcased their best Halloween stunts for a chance to win up an array of prizes.

“This is one of the most exciting Halloween activations we’ve ever hosted,” said Kara Glamore, Carnival Cruise Line VP. “Our guests bring so much energy and creativity to our Halloween cruises, and this year we decided to take the fun beyond the ship to kick off the celebrations before they even set sail.”

Over 1,000 kilograms of candy was stocked onboard Carnival Splendor for its Frightfully FUN Halloween cruises that have taken place throughout the month of October. In addition to traditional activities like costume contests and themed dance parties, excited cruisers have been able to meet Patch the Pumpkin Pirate®, play Halloween-themed trivia and bingo, watch spooky dive-in movies on the big screen, compete in pumpkin-carving contests, and more.

Halloween is fast becoming a favourite celebration among Australians with over a third (34%) planning to join in the festivities this year. The ARA and Roy Morgan forecast that Halloween spending will surpass $510 million in 2024, up $20 million from 2023. Carnival is embracing this growing trend with exciting Halloween activities on and off the ship, offering guests a unique way to celebrate the holiday both on land and at sea.

For those looking to secure a spot on a future Halloween-themed cruise, Carnival is excited to announce that bookings for 2025 sailings and beyond are now open aboard both Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Splendor, as well as the two new ships joining the fleet in March 2025, Carnival Encounter and Carnival Adventure. Throughout the entire month of October, these cruises promise a range of thrilling experiences and spooky surprises, perfect for holiday and Halloween enthusiasts alike. From Frightfully Fun Trick or Treating and spooky dance parties to pumpkin carving competitions and Halloween themed trivia, there’s something for everyone.
