White Cliffs Country

White Cliffs Country, named after its chalk coastline, takes in the Kent county towns of Dover, Deal and Sandwich.

Almost a quarter of White Cliffs Country falls within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers walking trails for the serious and more social rambler along with the National Cycle Route.

Dover
Known as the Gateway to England, Dover has been an important UK port since Roman times. This coastal town in the county of Kent. It’s a major port for ferries to Calais, in France. It is dominated by the medieval Dover Castle, which was built to repel invasions from across the English Channel, and houses the extensive Secret Wartime Tunnels. The White Cliffs of Dover are Britain’s closest point to continental Europe. The Dover 2020 Vision project embraces ambitious plans and aspirations for the area.

Deal
With its pebble beach and 100 ft long pier, Deal is one of the prettiest towns in Kent. Deal was recently voted the best UK seaside resort and enjoys a thriving arts scene, with galleries, exhibitions, festivals and museums.

Sandwich
Sandwich has one of the best preserved medieval towns in Britain. It is a true golfing destination with two Championship courses – the Prince’s Golf Club is a links course while the Royal St George’s is the number one course in England and home to The 149th Open in 2021.
