Destination Canada’s North Americana Podcast wins Gold & Silver at the Lowell Thomas Awards

Destination Canada’s North Americana Podcast was recognized with two awards at the Lowell Thomas Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious awards programs in travel journalism. North Americana won both Gold and Silver for the podcast category, beating out stiff competition in Condé Nast, Afar, Rick Steves, amongst others. Our episode spotlighting the Anishinaabe people of the Great Lakes took home the Gold award, while our episode on the Viking Heart of American and Canadian New Icelanders was awarded second place.

One of the judges commented on our award-winning episode with the following: “This podcast about the Anishinaabe people of the Great Lakes and their back and forth crossings before borders has all the elements - great story, natural sound, and a feel of BEING THERE. That's what separates the best in this category from other very good entries. When listeners feel like they've been there, they leave fulfilled”.

Congratulations to the team that has brought this podcast to life, in particular, Liz Beatty, North Americana’s host and award-wining journalist, podcast producer and writer who has engaged our audience with unparalleled storytelling.

North Americana began in August 2019 with a mission to engage and inspire our US target audience by diving into the fascinating and surprising connections between Canadians and Americans, as well as sharing insider travel tips. While our borders remain closed at the moment, the North Americana podcast is still releasing episodes every Tuesday to inspire travellers for the future. Episodes will continue to be released until early February 2021.
