Extension of the BTS Green Line and MRT Blue Line to Facilitate Traffic

A new BTS skytrain station, as part of the Green Line extension to northern Bangkok, has been opened to ease the traffic problem in Bangkok. The MRT underground’s Blue Line has also been extended to facilitate the travel of people in the city.

Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha recently presided over the opening the Ha Yaek Lat Phrao station, which extends from the Mo Chit station of the BTS Green Line skytrain.

The extension project will be fully operational in December 2020, running from Mo Chit to Saphan Mai in Bangkok and on to Khu Khot in Pathum Thani province.

The Ha Yaek Lat Phrao station, which also links with the MRT underground train network, has now opened for a trial run and the service of this extension will be free for passengers until 5 December 2019.

As for the MRT underground’s Blue Line, it has been extended from Hua Lamphong to Bang Khae (Wat Mangkhon – Tha Phra stations). The test run now operates daily for free, starting on 29 July 2019.

Since many people have used the MRT service during the trial run, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand and Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company have decided to extend the free service from 10.00-16.00 hr to 07.00-21.00 hr, from 13 August 2019 onwards.

The Hua Lamphong – Bang Khae extension will make it easier for passengers to travel to Bangkok’s Chinatown and the Grand Palace.
