France Tourists go to Canada

Canada could take advantage of two trip anchor activities that are more popular among French travellers compared to other markets: exploring places most tourists won’t go and exploring Indigenous culture.
France set a new annual record of 604,000 arrivals in 2018, up 5% over the previous peak set in 2017 and surpassing the 600K mark for the first time.

On average, French travellers stay 16 nights in Canada, the longest of all of our European markets, and spend close to $1,450 per trip. They mostly visit in the peak travel months of July and August, but also express interest in visiting in the shoulder season months of May, June, September, and October.

French leisure travellers want to explore Indigenous culture, try local food and drink, see natural attractions and heritage sites, and visit places that most tourists won’t go while on holiday.

Half of French leisure travellers that visited Canada on their most recent trip purchased an organized group travel package.

France continued to shine with record-breaking growth in both monthly overnight arrivals (49K, +8%) and year-to-date arrivals (179K, +8%), with more travellers arriving in Canada by direct air (+11% in May and +19% YTD).
