HARTALIKA TEEJ – THE MONSOON FESTIVAL

Of the three “Teej” festivals observed by Hindu women, this one is perhaps the most prominent with women coming together to fast and pray for the long lives of their husbands. Unmarried women also participate to pray for a good husband. The pray to Goddess Parvati & Lord Shiva, fasting for an entire day without food or water.

What’s Special:
The festival of Hartalika Teej celebrates the reunion of Goddess Parvati with Lord Shiva. As such, the streets are filled with big processions carrying beautifully clad idols of Goddess Parvati, escorted on camels and elephants with grand performances all around. Women dress up to look their best in traditional attire, which is usually a beautiful green in colour.
