THE ECC WORKS HAND IN HAND WITH THE GOVERNMENT TO FIGHT ILLEGAL TRAFFICKING

The Prime Minister of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, made a historic decision by stopping the illegal departure of a group of elephants to a zoo in the Middle-East.

This event also emphasizes the Lao Government’s determination to rebalance the flow of wildlife being smuggled out of Laos.

More importantly, this decision is a vote of confidence in the increasingly well-known Elephant Conservation Center to continue working closely with the government of Laos to restore the size of the national elephant population.

To welcome and take care of these new elephants and mahouts, we created a crowdfunding campaign and we raised $28 000. A big thank you to all of those who contributed.

The video below, 'a Caravan of Hope', shows the journey of the 13 elephants rescued from this illegal trafficking as they walk towards freedom in their new home:
