NSW DESTINATION AMBASSADORS PROFILE SYDNEY TO CRUISE VISITORS

The newest troop of NSW Destination Ambassadors have extended a warm welcome to thousands of cruise ship visitors at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal, marking the completion of the program’s first training round.

The NSW Destination Ambassador program has been created to improve the arrival experience of cruise ship passengers and was launched to coincide with the start of the cruise season.

Armed with local knowledge and trained by TAFE NSW, the volunteer Ambassadors provide advice to newly arrived passengers on everything the city has to offer – from world-class events and retail to restaurants, theatres, museums and much more.

So far 20 Ambassadors have completed the training, with a further 60 to graduate before the year’s end.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase said the program was showcasing Sydney to thousands of international and domestic visitors.

“The NSW Destination Ambassador program has been created to improve the professionalism and presentation of the existing meet and greet service, and is all about creating a positive first impression,” Ms Chipchase said.

“From the best in art, culture, food, shopping and vibrant events to an abundance of natural wonders, our visitors can make the most of what’s on offer in Sydney and surrounding NSW regions with the latest information and local knowledge at their fingertips.

“The program is one of many activities Destination NSW is rolling out to ensure NSW remains at the top of our visitors’ travel itineraries and to entice new and return visitors.”

The Ambassador service is currently operating out of the White Bay and Overseas Passenger Terminals and has the potential to be trialled in other destinations across the State. The program is a joint initiative between Destination NSW, TAFE NSW Sydney, the Port Authority of NSW, City of Sydney and Inner West Council.
