Air China Opens Service to Silicon Valley, Sees Growth

Earlier this month, Air China expanded its U.S. network with its inaugural flight from Shanghai to San Jose, gateway to Silicon Valley.

Air China will now operate the route three times a week using an Airbus A330 aircraft.

The flight marked the first direct link between Shanghai and San Jose, and Air China’s first transpacific service from Shanghai.

Flights depart Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 1330 and arrive at Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport at 1040 the same day, having crossed the International Date Line.

The return flights then leave San Jose at 1230 and arrive back in Shanghai at 1640 the next day.

Air China also reported growth of 7.2 percent in passenger traffic for the first half of 2016, along with an increase of 4.4 percent in freight traffic.

Air China now serves a total of 36 destinations from Shanghai, of which 14 are international.
