BADMINTON STARS COMPETE FOR RIO OLYMPICS RANKING POINTS IN SYDNEY

XIAMENAIR Australian Badminton Open
The world’s top badminton players have converged on Sydney this week for the XIAMENAIR Australian Badminton Open, which kicked off on 7 June at Sydney Olympic Park.

Speaking from the official launch with players on Sydney Harbour, NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said “It’s great to have the world’s best badminton players on our shores this week for the XIAMENAIR Australian Badminton Open.”

With the Olympics just around the corner, the tournament gives Rio bound players one last chance to battle it out for the all-important ranking points and vie for a share of the lucrative US$750,000 prize pool.

Wrapping up this weekend on Sunday 12 June, the tournament will see Sydney host 340 players from 30 different countries.

The XIAMENAIR Australian Badminton Open has been secured by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW
