MAJOR ACTS SECURED FOR AUSTRALIAN OPEN OF SURFING CONCERTS

The annual beachside surf, skate and music event is back and ready to raise the bar even higher when brother and sister duo, Angus & Julia Stone, along with Cloud Control, headline the MTV Music Stage at the Australian Open of Surfing.

The event will deliver two monumental evenings of free music, with Cloud Control taking centre stage on Friday 4 March, before Angus & Julia Stone return to their roots on the Northern Beaches to ramp things up on Saturday 5 March - followed by a DJ set each night featuring Didier and Ministry of Sound’s Jesabel.

NSW Premier Mike Baird said he was looking forward to another great line up at this year’s concerts.

“It’s great to see these award-winning local acts have signed up to be a part of this great event, which has already attracted a world-class line-up of surfers and skaters to the best beach in the world,” Mr Baird said.

“Whether you’re watching the action in the surf or the bowl, Angus & Julia Stone and Cloud Control will no doubt create a great atmosphere at Manly Beach during the competition.”

This year will see the first time that global music powerhouse MTV Music joins the Australian Open of Surfing as new sponsor of the free concerts and music stage.

The free, all ages concerts are staged on the last weekend of the nine day Australian Open of Surfing event to wrap up the world class action in the water and beach bowl as athletes enter the finals of the surf and skate competition, and crowds reach their peak.

“We’re extremely excited to be a part of this unique event, and to have the opportunity to capture awesome footage that we can share with our MTV audience. The Manly crowd is going to love the solid line-up at the Friday and Saturday afternoon events, and we’re looking forward to the public joining us at the MTV Music stage for some great Aussie performances,” said Simon Bates, Vice President, Head of MTV & Comedy Central.

“Angus & Julia Stone have played some of the biggest festivals in the world and we’re excited to bring their music to the Australian Open of Surfing. The event has pulled a top line up of music talent for the free concerts each year, last year with Vance Joy and Jagwar Ma headlining. The concerts create an amazing vibe on Manly Beach, and are always a highlight of the event,” said Simon Corkill, Director of Operations for IMG.

Owned and operated by IMG, with the support of the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, and Manly Council, the 2016 Australian Open of Surfing is expected to draw crowds in excess of the 255,000 people who flocked to Manly for the event in 2015.
