The Beijing International Capital Airport (BCIA) witnessed a footfall of 86 million in 2014 and is already over capacity. The new airport terminal is designed to handle 45 million passengers every year.
The six-pointed throwing star design of the airport is set to erase the blemish of the world’s most delayed airport conferred on the Beijing Capital International Airport due to the over capacity.
China, the world’s fastest growing aviation market had to introduce a new terminal to handle the exponentially increasing traffic. The new airport is believed to solve the issue and add better global connection with China.
The designers have made it a point to ensure that the new terminal is adaptable and sustainable, depending on the varying air traffic. With an integrated multi-modal transport centre featuring direct links to local and national rail services, the scheme will be a key hub within the region’s growing network, and a catalyst for the region’s economic development.
