Indian Pacific Celebrates 45 Years

HAPPY FORTY FIVE YEARS, INDIAN PACIFIC!

Guests aboard the Indian Pacific next week will help celebrate the 45th anniversary of Australia's first transcontinental rail journey.

On February 23, 1970, a new passenger train departed Sydney's Central Station. Sixty two hours and 20 minutes later, it was met by a roaring 10,000-strong crowd in Perth. After one single, uninterrupted journey across the incredible 4352km breadth of the continent, the Indian Pacific had arrived.

“The Indian Pacific is clearly destined to take its place among the great trains of history,” then Governor General Sir Paul Hasluck enthused at the time. Forty five years later, the Indian Pacific has delivered on expectations, ranking alongside the Blue Train and Orient Express as one of the world's must-do rail experiences.

In its 45th anniversary year, the Indian Pacific is introducing brand new experiences to its itinerary as it continues to journey beyond to amazing Australian destinations.
