SA Launches Microsite for World Cup Cricket Fans

The State Government has developed a new microsite packed with information for visitors coming to Adelaide for the ICC Cricket World Cup.

The Adelaide Oval is hosting two World Cup warm-up matches, three pool matches and a Quarter Final – with the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan on Sunday February 15 set to bring up to 35,000 cricket fans to Adelaide from interstate and overseas.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said many more visitors were expected to come to town for all the World Cup action.

“The February 15 blockbuster, which is India's opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup, has been a sell-out for months, and city hotels and retailers are preparing for a huge influx of cricket fans for this major event,” he said.

“The microsite will complement the broader southaustralia.com website, and will be a one-stop-shop for information, especially for international visitors.

“We want to make sure World Cup visitors don't just go to the cricket. We want them to take the opportunity to experience everything our state has to offer including our welcoming regions, great landscapes, and our premium food and wine.”

Minister Bignell said a significant proportion of visitors to South Australia used their mobile phones to get information about travel and accommodation, so the microsite will be accessible using free Wi-Fi throughout Adelaide.

“Everything from match times, FanZone activities and event road closure details to information about places of worship, transport options, and vegetarian and halal restaurants is included on the microsite,” he said.

The South Australian Tourism Commission will promote the microsite through social media, southaustralia.com and on all marketing material and flyers at various visitor touch points in Adelaide. The microsite can be accessed through southaustralia.com

The schedule of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 matches at the Adelaide Oval is:
  • Sunday February 8 – warm-up match – Australia v India
  • Tuesday February 10 – warm-up match – India v Afghanistan
  • Sunday February 15 – pool match – India v Pakistan
