ALBERT ‘TIBBY’ COTTER WALKWAY TAKING SHAPE AS WORLD CUP APPROACHES

NSW Minister for Roads and Freight Duncan Gay this week announced a significant milestone in the construction of the Albert ‘Tibby’ Cotter Walkway at Sydney’s Moore Park precinct, with the first main steel bridge spans going into place.

When finished, the bridge will provide a more direct connection between the Sydney CBD and the Moore Park sports precinct, which includes the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium.

“In a few short weeks, the historic walkway will provide visitors and residents of Sydney safer and more direct access to major sporting events and the CBD,” Mr Gay said.

“The first major event will be the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, which was last held in Sydney 23 years ago and will be a proud moment for NSW and our national game.

“The new walkway will benefit close to 1.5 million spectators who visit our major sporting hotpots every year as well as hundreds of thousands of residents travelling to the city every day,” he said.

The Sydney Cricket Ground will play to host several high profile matches during the World Cup, including Australia v Sri Lanka, a Quarter Final and a Semi Final.

NSW is also set to host six free warm-up matches in the lead up to the World Cup, including three in the heart of Western Sydney.

From Monday 9 February, Blacktown International Sportspark and the Sydney Cricket Ground will host matches featuring the likes of England, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the West Indies.
