A recent study revealed that people who travel to Galveston during the day accounted for more than 57 percent of the island’s 5.7 million visitors last year. Galveston is a coastal city located on Galveston Island and Pelican Island in the U.S. state of Texas. Much of Galveston’s modern economy is centered in its tourism.
And while they spent only $50 per person on average, compared to $108 spent by overnight tourists, their importance cannot be ignored.Galveston Park Board Chairman Craig Brown says the board is going to be studying how it can improve the experience of day-trippers.The study also found that tourism generated $908 million in direct and indirect sales in 2012.
The city features an array of lodging options. The city’s tourist attractions include the Galveston Schlitterbahn waterpark, Moody Gardens botanical park, the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum, the Lone Star Flight Museum, Galveston Railroad Museum, a downtown neighborhood of historic buildings known as The Strand, many historical museums and mansions, and miles of beach front from the East End’s Porretto Beach, Stewart Beach to the West End pocket parks.
