Savour Australia, a Wine Australia event supported by the South Australian government and the Australian wine industry, will bring together around 750 influential professionals from the world’s wine trade including Australian winemakers, wine buyers, retailers, sommeliers, distributors and key media.
A combination of business forums, tastings, networking events, themed dinners and lunches and networking lounges, the event will deliver the most comprehensive showcase of Australian wine ever staged.
Being named as the host venue for Savour Australia follows Adelaide Convention Centre’s success in creating and running the Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide, which has become Australia’s most awarded consumer event.
Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said the Centre worked closely with the Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA), South Australian Tourism Commission and the Adelaide Convention Bureau to help bring Savour to Adelaide.
“We’re looking forward to supporting Wine Australia in its efforts to promote the Australian wine industry to the world,” said Mr Gilbert.
“Being the host venue for Savour Australia builds on the work we’ve done in helping to promote the South Australian wine industry and local food producers through the creation of the Cellar Door Wine Festival.
“Many of the local wineries who participate in the Cellar Door Wine Festival will also be involved in Savour Australia when it comes to Adelaide in September.”
In hosting Savour, the Adelaide Convention Centre will be responsible for helping to create a number of unique events and spaces within the Centre including:
The Entry to Market Lounge – a café style networking lounge available to all Australian wine producers looking to expand into new export markets and meet with and get introductions to importers and distributors from global wine markets.
Blind Tasting Room – where delegates will have the opportunity to test their palates alongside some of the world’s leading wine connoisseurs as part of a blind tasting competition, which will run throughout Savour 2013.
Tasting Bars – several themed tasting bars featuring different varietals and styles for delegates to sample at their own pace.
Landmark Australia wine tastings – Landmark Australia wine tastings are central to the Savour Australia 2013 program and will showcase wines that exemplify Australia’s ultimate wine offering.
Innovation Lounge – a showcase of Australia’s best wine innovations including blends, winemaking approaches and bottle sealing techniques.
The Grand Tasting – the most comprehensive wine tasting in the program will showcase the quality, diversity and regionality of Australian wines. Around 155 Australian wine producers will show their wines to the domestic and international wine trade and media.
Mr James Gosper, Wine Australia’s General Manager, Market Development said Savour Australia is the most comprehensive Australian wine forum ever undertaken and will bring together 750 of the world’s leading wine trade, Australian wine producers and wine and lifestyle media to showcase Australia’s world leading wines alongside our fresh produce and varied cuisines.”
“The nature of this event, with its mix of business sessions, wine tastings, themed dining experiences and networking lounges, means that it requires a high level of logistical complexity to bring it to life,” said Mr Gosper.
“We’re looking forward to working with the Australian wine industry to maximise the wide-ranging facilities at the Adelaide Convention Centre, to transform the space into the Savour Australia 2013 hub, so we’re ready to welcome the world’s wine trade, challenge their perceptions of Australian wine and showcase the diversity, quality and regionality of our wine offer.”
