New World Record Attempt in the Longest Underwater Clean-up in Malaysia

Astro aims to set a new world record in the longest underwater clean-up and is inviting qualified divers to take part in the attempt at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park KOTA KINABALU  Malaysia from April 6-13. The attempt hopes to go down in history with a Guinness World Records title for the longest underwater cleanup.

The event will be held at 14 dive sites surrounding the marine park.

Astro Kasih has initiated an environmental project named Beautiful Malaysia. The purpose of this project is to raise awareness on the importance of preserving our environment for our future generation. Marine debris be it toxic waste, rubbish or other harmful material travel great distances, even to the most remote places of the world's oceans, damaging sea corals and causing the deaths of thousands of marine animals and sea birds every year, the company said.

Ocean pollution affects the marine environment. So, underwater cleanups and conservation are great ways to protect the marine environment. In 2011, as part of the conservation initiative, Beautiful Malaysia saw divers, both local and foreign, breaking the Malaysia Book of Records by planting 777 individual corals at the Ribbon Reef in Tun Sakaran Marine Park. Astro Kasih invites volunteers who are certified divers to be part of the environmental project, which is part of the company's corporate social responsibility program. You will not only help make a difference but also be part of a world record attempt in the longest underwater cleanup. All you need is an Open Water Diver’s Certificate.

Those keen to learn more about the event or register to participate can obtain details at www.astrokasih.org/beautifulmalaysia.
