The tiny WA town named as top national tourist destination

Exmouth
The tiny WA town of Exmouth is celebrating being named as National Top Tourism Town with less than 5,000 residents by an Australian Tourism Council industry panel of judges and public vote.

The Australian Top Tourism Town Awards are presented by the Australian Tourism Industry Council and supported by Tourism Australia. Finalists in each category have won at a state level through a process involving industry panel judges and a public vote.

This recognition reflects the region’s unique natural beauty, diverse experiences, and tireless commitment of the community to providing world-class hospitality. It underscores the exceptional work and dedication of the local tourism industry, community, and stakeholders to create a welcoming and memorable environment for visitors.

The Shire of Exmouth expressed its gratitude to all those involved in making this achievement possible. While the award is a tremendous honour, the shire president said it also highlights the growing need for sustainable tourism practices that align with infrastructure development in the region.

“We’re grateful to represent and showcase Exmouth as the unique wonderland it is,” Exmouth Shire president Matthew Niikkula said.

“And we’re looking forward to the future ahead, knowing that we have the unwavering support from Tourism WA and the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation to present Exmouth as a premium tourism destination to the world while listening to our community’s needs.

“As we clearly experienced over the last couple of years unplanned travel can strain resources and impact the visitor experience and our community’s wellbeing. To ensure that Exmouth continues to thrive as a premier tourism destination, it is crucial that we work together to implement sustainable initiatives and enhance our infrastructure. By working together, we can create a more sustainable and enjoyable tourism experience for everyone.”
