There's a reason Mark Twain is still incorrectly quoted as saying “the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” While other parts of the country are sweltering, average summertime highs in San Francisco range from 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, making the City by the Bay a refreshing escape from the heat.

Those looking to cool down can explore the city's iconic sites, scenic nature, walkable neighborhoods, exciting culinary scene, and vibrant arts and culture while taking advantage of summer promotions, night markets, festivals and new activities.

San Francisco boasts over 250 hotels; here is a sampling of summer offerings from properties across the city:

The San Francisco Marriott Marquis's “Stay Longer and Explore SF Summer” package includes a minimum two-night stay in a Premium Suite and a private three-hour city tour for two in an air-conditioned car along with a chef curated summer picnic basket. Guests can select either “The Classic Expedition” tour highlighting iconic landmarks or “The Trendy Tour of the City by the Bay” featuring Instagram-worthy spots like the Mission District and Haight Ashbury.

Kimpton's Hotel Enso is offering a “Homerun” package featuring two-night accommodations, two tickets to a San Francisco Giants home game at Oracle Park, an immersive Oracle Park tour experience, roundtrip car transportation to and from Oracle Park, and a pregame Fan's Kit with gameday essentials including sunscreen, a clear bag and a Giants ballcap

W San Francisco in partnership with REI is offering a “Kayak under the Golden Gate Bridge” excursion. The hotel also is featuring a “Pets Are Welcome” (P.A.W.) program and a special staycation rate for California residents offering 20% off bookings from Thursday to Monday.

For its “Splash + Spin” package, LUMA San Francisco has partnered with SpinOut Fitness to offer a one-of-a-kind aquatic experience that takes travelers sightseeing by way of waterbike. Set in the Mission Bay neighborhood, the SpinOut Fitness experience departs from South Beach Harbor Marina (within walking distance from the LUMA) for a one- to three-mile excursion taking in San Francisco landmarks including the Bay Bridge and Ferry Building.

The Palace Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, is featuring a “Family Connecting Room” package that includes two connecting rooms with a 30% discount on the price of the adjoining Deluxe one-king room. The hotel's heated indoor pool, crowned with a glass roof, features inflatables during the summer and activities such as “Dive-in Movie Night” on Saturdays.

The Beacon Grand's “Summer in the City” package offers guests up to 25% off two-night stays. The hotel's new bar & lounge, Starlite, provides incredible views of the San Francisco skyline.

Presidio Lodging's Lodge at the Presidio and Inn at the Presidio's “Beat the Heat” package includes parking, a commemorative gift, breakfast, and a wine and cheese reception. The historic properties are in the Presidio of San Francisco, a national park site overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge.

Hotel Zoe Fisherman's Wharf is offering “The Ultimate SF Summer” featuring a 10% discount on three-night stays with a $50 dining credit. The hotel's outdoor courtyard features wine and roasted s'mores around firepits in the evening.

The Marker Union Square San Francisco is currently offering several packages, including the “Savor San Francisco” and promoting the roster of exciting events in Union Square taking place throughout the summer.

The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco unveiled its third installation of Solaire Terrasse with Veuve Clicquot in The Terrace Courtyard overlooking the city's iconic skyline. Programming includes a Madame Clicquot Afternoon Tea on the last Sunday of every month and every Sunday in October, plus a first-of-its-kind Veuve Clicquot inspired zero proof sorbet – La Grand Dame Sorbet by Gelato Festival.

In addition to exclusive offers, The Hyatt Regency San Francisco is paying homage to the city's iconic cooler weather with its creatively named "Calling Karl Cocktail," featured on the Eclipse Happy Hour menu. The distinctive drink with dry gin, lime juice and ginger beer is a nod to "Karl the Fog," the affectionate nickname locals have given to the dense fog that frequently blankets the city.

The Z Hotels SF properties—Hotel Zetta, Hotel Zeppelin, and Hotel Zelos— in downtown San Francsico are offering bold packages to match the hotel's personalities, including the “Zelos Rebel Society,” “Weekend Warrior,” and “The Bungalow.”

The Hotel Castro will launch a "Chill in The Castro" program this summer featuring curated guides to outdoor experiences and partnerships with local Castro businesses that highlight the neighborhood's vibrant atmosphere.

Hotel Nikko San Francisco is offering special amenities and more with a “Bloom Event” package in tandem with the “Union Square in Bloom” summer celebration celebrating the district's floral legacy with a modern twist.

The Hilton Union Square is offering a “Family Exploration Weekend” package that includes guaranteed room with two Queen beds and up to four passes for San Francisco's award-winning Big Bus Tour.

Four Seasons Hotel at the Embarcadero and Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco are offering a “Stay Longer” promotion with a fourth night free.

To celebrate Wicked coming to San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre this summer, the Fairmont San Francisco is offering an array of summer Wicked activations, including Wicked at the Fairmont Afternoon Tea, a special Tonga cocktail and a room package that includes a stay the hotel's exclusive Wicked-themed suite in the properties Tower building with views across the Bay.
