Shinju Matsuri celebrates 50 years

Shinju Matsuri (festival of the pearl) is set to return in 2020 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the annual event. 

Masterchef Australia favourites Derek Lau and Brendan Pang, along with Anna Gare, will headline this year's festival, to be held from August 29 to September 6 in Broome – the pearling capital of Australia in WA's Kimberley region. 

The event is a celebration of the four diverse cultures that have come together in Broome over the past century for pearls; Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese and Aboriginal.
