Th Ao Dai is the most well known traditional costume in Vietnam. The beauty of the Ao Dai has been recognized worldwide.

In days gone by, the Ao Dai used to be worn by men and women, but now days it is more commonly worn by women. Over the years the Ao Dai has had a long history and many changes.

The Ad Dai is characterized by a tight fit, hip-length slits and high collar. They were worn everyday and for special occasions. Today Ao Dai's are more commonly worn as work uniforms for women working in banks, hotels and Vietnamese restaurants.

The Ao Dai Museum in Ho Chi Minh City has displays of historic and modern Ao Dai to show how beautiful these are. Ao Dai's dating back to the 17th century all the way to modern adaptations are on display effectively displaying the evolution of the dress. Here you will see the many beautiful designs and patterns on the Ao Dai dresses.

Th e Ao Dai is popular as a souvenir, either bought off the rack or made- to-order after measurements are done to ensure an exact fit.

The Ao Dai Exhibition is well worth a visit to see the old and new Ao Dai dresses on display. It is located in the Saigon House on 77 Nguyen Hue, which is Ho Chi Minh’s walking street. On the ground floor is a food court, with a display of antique sowing machines on one wall. The Ao Dai Exhibition is open 10 am to 7 pm every day of the week.
