The countdown to Enlighten 2016 has officially begun with Canberra's stunning celebration of culture and creativity launched on 1 February at the National Gallery of Australia.
This year's festival delivers another program of exciting events and surprising experiences from 4-12 March, including two exclusive Australian firsts.
Illuminating Canberra for its sixth year, Enlighten will transform the Parliamentary Triangle with a range of free entertainment, the return of the Enlighten Night Noodle Markets, and stunning architectural projections that will light up six of Australia's most iconic buildings.
Parliament House, National Portrait Gallery, National Library of Australia, Museum of Australian Democracy, National Gallery of Australia and Questacon will all display projections on their walls, while also offering a unique opportunity to explore inside their buildings and exhibitions after dark.
Enlighten Creative Director Nicole Warren said roving performers and live music would transform the Parliamentary Triangle into a vibrant and bold performance precinct.
“From seven-metre-tall inflatable white rabbits glowing in the dark, to a performance from Australian favourite Augie March to Questacon's 'Whisky business' exploration of the science behind creating whisky, Enlighten 2016 truly offers something for everyone,” Ms Warren said.
The Enlighten Night Noodle Markets return to Reconciliation Place from 4-13 March, creating a bustling atmosphere in the heart of the event with an array of authentic Asian eats, themed bars and live music.
As the lights go on across the Parliamentary Triangle, visitors will tuck into fun, authentic Asian eats, from dumplings to dosa and pad Thai to gyoza.
