- World’s leading travel media company reveals its picks for the best places to go in Europe in 2014
- Greece Claims Top Spot on List
Lonely Planet released today its newest annual list: Best in Europe 2014. This list features Lonely Planet’s picks for the best places to visit in Europe this year and includes countries, cities and regions from all over the European continent. Destinations were chosen by the company’s team of editors based in Lonely Planet’s London office for having timely reasons to visit right now, or for being buzz-worthy yet under-the-radar. The Best in Europe 2014 list goes beyond the destinations featured in Lonely Planet’s annual Best in Travel book (the company’s picks for the top 10 countries, cities and regions in the world), providing more detail for the traveler looking to discover where to go in Europe in 2014.
Greece claimed the top honor on the list, chosen as the #1 destination to visit in Europe in 2014 due to its luxury experiences at affordable prices. The list also features (in ranked order): Ljubljana (Slovenia), Southwest England, Italy, Viking Denmark, Seville (Spain), Outer Hebrides (Scotland), Plzeň (Czech Republic), Stavanger (Norway) and Toulouse (France). Additional information on why these destinations were chosen can be found in Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe 2014 article.
In celebration of Italy being on the Best in Europe 2014 list, Lonely Planet has unlocked the full version of its Italian Fast Talk app for free until June 30th, 2013.
For those inspired to take a trip to Europe this year, Lonely Planet has also released a brand-new free ebook titled Secret Europe, which features Europe’s 50 best-kept secrets of what to see and do: untouristed villages, hidden beaches, clandestine nightlife and mouthwatering authentic cuisine. Secret Europe is free to download on all ebook platforms (Kindle, Nook, iBookstore, Kobo, etc.) and as a downloadable PDF (Secret Europe). As Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe list will inspire travelers to plan a trip to Europe this year by telling them where to go, the Secret Europe ebook will tell them what to do as it highlights off-the-beaten-track experiences all across Europe, as discovered by Lonely Planet’s authors.
