Winter magic at Munich Airport

Munich Airport
Heralding the begin of the Advent season in Bavaria, this year’s edition of the popular Winter Market in the MAC Forum at Munich Airport started successful.

Since the inaugural event in 1999, the winter wonderland at the heart of Munich Airport has been a bigger hit every year, drawing large crowds of international visitors as well as many visitors from neighboring communities. And it’s not only the outdoor Christmas shop-ping at more than 50 market stalls that attracts them. The event also features ice skating and Bavarian curling on a big outdoor rink and an extensive program of live entertainment. More than 40 bands and musical acts from the region are scheduled to appear daily starting at 6 p.m. The stage show will be different every day, featuring gen-res ranging from blues, jazz and gospel to rock and pop. And while taking it in, visitors can feast on all kinds of treats, from traditional Bavarian cuisine to Asian dishes and, of course, hot mulled wine.

Creating a suitably festive atmosphere in the MAC Forum are more than 400 pine trees and a 15-meter Christmas tree decorated with over 50,000 lights and 3,000 ornaments. For children, the Winter Market and Kinderland have an extensive program of activities, from making Christmas cribs and decorating gingerbread houses to making advent decorations. Sports lovers can use the large ice skating and curling rinks free of charge. Ice skates can be rented right next to the rink for a small fee. A giant advent calendar on the Meta Twist Tower also has a treat in store for Christmas shoppers: Every day it will announce special discounts at airport shops. The Munich Airport Winter Market, which will continue this year until December 29, is open daily from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., except on December 24th, when the market and the airport shops will close early, at 5 p.m. Visitors who come by car can park free of charge in the P20 parking garage for up to five hours. The parking vouchers are available at all of the winter market stands, and are simply cancelled when leaving at the payment machine.
