Mekong Delta welcomes more than 22 million tourists in 2017

The Mekong Delta greeted more than 22.4 million tourist arrivals in 2017, grossing a revenue of VND11.31 trillion, the highest-ever rate, according to the statistics of the Tourism Association of the region.

According to Head of An Giang provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Van Len, this year, the Mekong Delta province arranged many delegations to promote tourism, cooperated with other localities to develop tourism, organized many seminars to seek solutions to improve the quality of tourism products, hosted cultural and culinary events, and invested in more new products. Therefore, it attracted more than 7.3 million tourists with a total tourism turnover to about VND3.7 trillion.

Meanwhile, in Can Tho, tourism activities showed impressive results with the number of domestic and foreign tourist arrivals reaching about 7.5 million, a 41% rise over a year earlier. Total tourism turnover posted over VND2.897 trillion, a year-on-year rise of 59%.

Kien Giang, with its advantages and potential in tourism such as Ha Tien township, Nam Du archipelago, Ba Lua archipelago, U Minh Thuong National Park and Phu Quoc pearl island lured more than six million holiday-makers, of which foreigners were 368,000; grossing more than VND4.58 trillion in revenue, 20% higher than the set target. It also earns the highest tourism turnover in the delta.

In 2018, Kien Giang sets target to draw more than 7.1 million visitors, in which foreigners should reach about 430,000. Total tourism revenue is expected to reach about VND5.9 trillion.
