What's New in NSW Spring 2017

Spring is in the air, and Sydney and Regional NSW are alive with new experiences, accommodation, bars and restaurants. Highlights include a unique goat yoga retreat in Mayfield, a celebrity chef guest series in Newrybar, and a bohemian glamping experience with panoramic lake views in the Blue Mountains.

New in Experiences

With only 400 Sumatran tigers remaining in the wild, Taronga Zoo has launched its new Tiger Trek exhibit, which highlights the plight of the critically endangered animals. Beginning with a flight simulation, that ‘transports’ guests to a Sumatran village, Tiger Trek encourages us all to make responsible consumer choices, including how to choose certified sustainable palm oil, that could help protect the tigers in the future.

Wax figures of Australia’s catwalk royalty, Megan Gale, Miranda Kerr and Elle McPherson, will feature in a new exhibit at Madame Tussauds Sydney. Visitors to the Fashion Experience can enjoy a Napoleon Perdis digital makeover, try on the latest fashions from Myer and walk the runway, before posing with the figure of Megan Gale. A highlight is the chance for visitors to pose for their very own Cosmopolitan cover shoot before sharing the whole experience on social media. Fabulous, Darling.

The Art Gallery of NSW is opening late on Wednesdays for Art After Hours. The program, which is made up of free and ticketed events, runs between 5 and 10pm, and includes live music, lectures, comedy, drawing workshops, film screenings, gallery tours (including of this year’s Archibald Prize), and a series of celebrity talks.

The newest style of yoga comes to Mayfield Garden in Oberon this month. The Mayfield Spring Yoga Retreat includes a unique, goat yoga experience. Already popular in the US, goat yoga is said to work because goats and people get on so well. While guests stretch and bend, baby goats make themselves at home, cuddling with and sitting and standing on practicing yogis. The yoga retreat is on from 15-17 September.

When Jamberoo Action Park opens for the 2017/2018 season on 23 September, it will be with an exciting new attraction; The Perfect Storm, the tallest, longest water ride of its kind in the world. The wild water slide, which simulates a tornado, features a soundtrack of thunder cracks and moments of zero gravity. Just under a two-hour drive from Sydney, the Jamberoo Action Park offers 40 hectares of aqua play fun including a vast range of water rides, slides and attractions.
