To celebrate the launch of the 2018 program of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, the Sydney Opera House lit up its sails hot pink on Friday 3 November.
Next year’s event will be extra special as Mardi Gras celebrates its 40th anniversary. Mardi Gras began as a celebration turned protest in 1978 and has continued over four decades as a celebration of diversity, acceptance, pride and family.
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival kicks off on Friday, 16 February 2018 with 17 sparkling days of parties, performances and family and community events.
The highlight is the iconic Parade on Saturday, 3 March 2018, which is supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
