North Carolina Celebrates ‘Year of the Trail’ in 2023

‘Year of the Trail’
It is known as the Great Trails State and is part of the Appalachian Trail, the 1,175 mile Mountains-to-Sea Trail, which is the world’s longest hiking-only footpath. 

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the NC Trails System Act, the state is staging the Year of the Trail with events in each of the state’s 100 counties. 

Visitors to North Carolina can find trails for hiking, biking, paddling, horseback riding and off-road vehicles.
