Discover Bangkok

Bangkok – known by the locals as Krung Thep (roughly translating to ‘City of Angels’) – is the capital city of Thailand, and one of the most visited cities of Southeast Asia.

It has been the country’s most dominant city since the 18th century and remains Thailand’s cultural, educational, political, and economic center.

With Bangkok’s population at approximately 10 million, the city itself is a mix between old and new, with pagodas and temples co-existing harmoniously with mega shopping centers and skyscrapers, providing entertainment, culture, and history to both locals and foreigners.

Get In - Plane

Bangkok is a major Southeast Asian hub, with dozens of airlines flying into the country daily. Most international airlines provide flights to Bangkok, but the city’s own Bangkok Airways is one of the notable Bangkok airlines offering several convenient flights in and out of Thailand.

The Thai capital has two main airports. The main international airport is the larger Suvarnabhumi International Airport situated 30km east of central Bangkok. Don Muang Airport, approximately 25km north of the city center, is used for smaller, budget airlines and domestic flights. There is a 500-meter walkway that connects both terminals with a free Thai Airways shuttle bus for those who need to transfer between the two.

Get In - From the airport:

Getting to the city from the Bangkok airport is fairly easy with the Airport City Link. The Express Service bus takes you to Makasan, where you can switch to the MRT (train) line to get to the city. This takes roughly 15 minutes of travel time and costs approximately 150THB. The normal bus service costs around 45THB and is double the travel time. You can find the Airport City Link in the basement of the arrival hall.

Taxis can also be found on Level 1 of the terminal – go to the departure area (located on the third floor) and take a cab from there (roughly 200THB). (Tip: Make sure the meter is on before entering the cab.) Other ride-sharing options such as GrabCar are also available.
