$3 MILLION OVERHAUL OF CIRCULAR QUAY WHARF

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer, Sandra Chipchase, has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a $3 million investment into improvements to Circular Quay wharf.

Ms Chipchase said, “This infrastructure investment is fantastic news for Sydney commuters and underlines the importance of our ferry service which is an asset to the tourism industry.

“Sydney is blessed with one the most picturesque harbour’s in the world and our ferries have always been popular among visitors.”

The announcement also coincides with Harbour City Ferries celebration of two years improved services for customers. The Sydney Ferries operator began its harbour services in July 2012, and has since increased weekly services, and seen patronage rise by almost seven per cent.

NSW Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said ferry customers have more to look forward to with the Circular Quay refresh giving the popular tourist destination new seating, fresh paint, improvements to lighting and other upgrades.

Harbour City Ferries has increased customer patronage to almost 16 million, at the end of 2013/14 financial year, more than a million than in the first year of operations - an increase of 6.9 per cent.
