In 2026, Thailand steps into a new era with The New Thailand vision, unveiled by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The strategy marks a shift from quantity to quality, focusing on sustainable growth, emotional storytelling, and innovative global events to position Thailand as a top-10 tourism economy worldwide.
“Value is the New Volume” — A Quality-First Strategy
Under the theme “Value is the New Volume,” Thailand aims to transform its tourism sector through five key paradigms: new customers, new products, new partnerships, new marketing strategies, and new performance indicators. This quality-first approach prioritizes safety, accessibility, authentic connections, and cultural identity, ensuring long-term benefits for travellers and local communities alike.Strategic Investment and Innovative Initiatives
Despite challenges in global tourism, Thailand has welcomed over 18 million visitors in 2024, generating 1.4 trillion Baht in revenue. In response, the government approved a 4.5-billion-Baht budget to drive 22 strategic initiatives. These include promoting sport tourism, spotlighting hidden destinations linked to UNESCO Creative Cities, and leveraging Thailand’s rich cultural soft power to boost international appeal.
Focusing on Diverse Traveller Segments
TAT’s 2026 strategy targets key traveller segments such as Millennials seeking meaningful experiences, digitally savvy Gen Z, luxury tourists desiring exclusivity, and wellness visitors attracted by holistic health offerings. The strategy also tailors market priorities across mature, short-haul, long-haul, and emerging markets, aiming to rebuild safety perceptions, expand geographic reach, and grow high-value traveller numbers.Experience-Led Tourism Across Thailand’s Regions

Innovation in Travel and Quality Standards
New travel routes by land, sea, air, and rail—including themed trains and Mekong cruises—will enhance connectivity and visitor experiences. Quality certifications such as Thailand Tourism Awards and Trusted Thailand (Safe Travel Stamp) will elevate service standards, with sustainable tourism exemplified by Krabi’s “Blue Zones” project leading the way.Leveraging World-Class Events and Cultural Celebrations
Thailand’s calendar will shine with iconic festivals and sporting events in 2026—from the Amazing Thailand Marathon and 33rd SEA Games to the global launch of Tomorrowland Thailand. Traditional cultural events like Maha Loy Krathong, the Ubon Ratchathani Candle Procession, and the Christmas Star Parade will highlight Thailand’s vibrant heritage, boosting soft power and emotional appeal.Building a Sustainable, Value-Driven Tourism Economy
