Sydney Seaplanes Takes Off Under New Ownership with Exciting Expansion Plans

Sydney Seaplanes
Sydney’s iconic seaplane experience is set to soar to new heights as Dr Jerry Schwartz, renowned hotel and hospitality entrepreneur, takes the helm at Sydney Seaplanes. With a vision for growth, innovation, and luxury, Schwartz’s acquisition promises an enhanced fleet, premier waterfront hospitality, and an unforgettable aviation experience.

A New Era for Sydney Seaplanes

Sydney Seaplanes haslong been a staple of the city’s tourism scene, offering scenic flights over Sydney Harbour, chartered coastal getaways, and unique dining experiences. Under the new ownership of the Schwartz Family Company (SFC), the operation is set for significant expansion.

The agreement includes:

  • Majority ownership of Sydney Seaplanes, transitioning to full ownership in mid-2025.
  • Acquisition of Sydney Seaplanes’ Rose Bay headquarters and its adjoining Empire Lounge, now rebranded as Sydney Seaplanes Lounge.
  • Fleet expansion from three to five aircraft, with an additional DHC-2 Beaver seaplane joining soon.

Dr Schwartz’s vision is not just about growing the business but redefining Sydney’s luxury tourism—offering visitors and locals alike an experience reminiscent of the golden age of aviation.

Fleet Expansion: Soaring Higher Than Ever

Sydney Seaplanes currently operates a fleet of three aircraft, soon expanding to five:

  • Cessna Caravans (2x) – The quietest commercial seaplanes available, seating 12 passengers in air-conditioned comfort.
  • de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver (1x, soon to be 2x) – A legendary aircraft known for its rugged reliability, perfect for scenic coastal journeys.
  • Additional Seaplane (1x, arriving late 2025) – Further enhancing the fleet’s capacity for tourism and exclusive chartered flights.

These aircraft will continue to provide breathtaking aerial tours over Sydney Harbour, Pittwater, Palm Beach, and the rugged New South Wales coastline—creating memories that last a lifetime.

Sydney Seaplanes Lounge: A Waterfront Dining & Event Destination

The former Empire Lounge has been rebranded as Sydney Seaplanes Lounge, a luxury dining and event venue that will elevate pre- and post-flight experiences.

  • Gourmet Dining with a View – Overlooking the sparkling waters of Rose Bay, the venue will feature fresh, locally sourced seafood and seasonal ingredients.
  • Champagne & Cocktails Before Takeoff – Passengers can indulge in premium drinks before or after their flight, making every journey a special occasion.
  • Weddings & Luxury Events – The venue will cater to high-end functions, offering couples the chance to fly off into the sunset after their wedding reception.

With renowned chef Natali Mikailoğlu at the helm—previously with Rockpool, The Boathouse Group, and Merivale—the menu will focus on modern Australian cuisine, infused with global influences.

A Legacy of Luxury: Seaplanes in Sydney

Sydney Seaplanes
Dr Schwartz’s acquisition honors the rich aviation history of Sydney, dating back to 1938, when Qantas’ flying boats connected Australia to the world via the legendary Kangaroo Route.

“Back in the 1930s, arriving by seaplane in Sydney was the ultimate luxury travel experience,” said Dr Schwartz. “We’re bringing that glamour back—combining indulgent flight experiences with world-class hospitality.”

With a fleet expansion, luxury waterfront dining, and a renewed vision for Sydney tourism, Sydney Seaplanes is ready to take flight into an exciting future.
